Nausea and changes in food tolerance should be followed up with the surgical team. Severe symptoms should not simply be attributed to recovery.

Early warning signs

Fever, a rapid heartbeat, abdominal pain or repeated vomiting require immediate contact with your clinical team. Severe pain, breathlessness, chest pain or vomiting blood need emergency care.

Long-term follow-up

Reflux, food intolerance, nutritional deficiencies and gallstones may occur. Do not stop scheduled visits, blood tests or prescribed supplements without medical advice.

Frequently asked questions

Is repeated vomiting after a sleeve normal?

It should not be ignored. Seek prompt assessment, especially if drinking fluids is difficult.

Can a fever wait until tomorrow?

Discuss fever after surgery with the team the same day. Go to emergency care if severe symptoms occur.

Is weakness only due to eating less?

Not necessarily. Hydration, food intake and medical causes need assessment. The website also has a separate article about weakness after sleeve surgery.
