Obesity and sexual health
Obesity is associated with an increased likelihood of erectile dysfunction. Other illnesses, hormonal status and body image also deserve assessment. Having obesity does not mean having sexual dysfunction and should not lead to blame.
Getting assessed
Discuss the type of problem, its onset, medicines and other illnesses with a clinician. Urology, gynaecology, endocrinology or mental health assessment may help. Weight loss is not a guaranteed cure for every problem.
Frequently asked questions
Will losing weight definitely solve a sexual problem?
No. It may help, but the underlying cause needs to be identified.
Is sexual dysfunction the same as infertility?
No. Sexual function and fertility are different issues, although they may be assessed together.
Should I take sexual performance medication myself?
No. Medicines, heart health and other conditions should be reviewed before choosing treatment.
